What's President Doing on 'View'?

President Obama’s latest coup d’etat? Not attending the Boy Scouts’ Jamboree marking Scouting’s 100th anniversary in Northern Virginia, right in the president’s own backyard. Instead he goes on the “The View” — a truly tremendous achievement for a sitting president.

Also, Obama has referred to Arizona’s SB 1070, the illegal immigrant bill, as “misguided” and “irresponsible.” I find his administration’s response to the bill (and immigration policy as a whole) “disingenuous and despicable.”

Arizona’s borders are literally under siege by illegal immigrants as well as the drug cartels.

The Pinal County Sheriff (of Arizona) commented, “We have paramilitary squad-sized elements who are operating deep within Arizona. This is unacceptable and must be stopped ... must we have a deputy killed by these smugglers before the federal government hears our plea for help?”

Obama Derangement Syndrome: the not-so-silent epidemic.

0

dustyrhoades 2 years, 9 months ago

Ross says...

"right wing crybabies doing what they do best - boo hoo. I wonder if they were as equally offended when ol georgie went awol so often to his ranch."

The answer is no, they did not, and in fact called anyone who dared question Dubbya's Brush Clearing Month a terrible awful leftist traitor who'd do anything to bring down the Commander in Chief.

But IOKIYAR!

You should all watch the Jon Stewart segment that ran the other night about how Obama will never be able to please the right. It was so funny and so true. I mean really, the boy scouts. Reagan didn't make in 8 years as president. He must have been a socialist.

What was he doing...Grandstanding, campaigning, trying to smooze back some of the female vote he has lost...basically making himself look like an idiot and degrading the office of the Presidency. At least we found out that the president's wife spends her day waiting to watch this program. My God...help us please. Passes up the opportunity to be with our youth for the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts for that?? Some opportunities are squandered and just lost forever; and we just witnessed one of them.

It's utterly amazing how selective amnesia has taken over a disturbing amount of minds in this country. You say President Obama is degrading the office of the Presidency by sitting down with the Ladies of the View? You are seriuosly kidding. Right? George W. Bush was/is perhaps the most awful, humiliating, DEGRADING, dangerous, and ignorant, President the United States has ever seen(give or take a few other Republicans). There is no question that George W. Bush helped send this country into a spiraling decline unseen since The Great Depression. While he was not alone in achieving that Great Honor, he was at the helm when the crew yelled, "ICEBERG!" But unlike tha Captain of the Titanic who went down with his ship while still trying to save her, Georgie Boy went to cutting logs in the Texas wilderness as untold millions of Americans were slowly sacrificed to WALL STREET and it's incredible appetitite for the tiny bank accounts of those expendible "others". President Obama has attempted to RIGHT THE WRONGS from those nights that the HAVE and HAVE MORE'S scrambled to get it while they could before the sun came up and Georgie Boy left office. President Obama has done more positive governing in the past year than Bush did in 8 yrs in office. Actually Bush never did any governing. He left that to Mr. Cryptkeeper Cheney. Thanks Dick.

Oh moonchild, if only you'd stop watching MSNBC and get your information from non biased sources...or better yet, do your own homework and research, you'd know that the financial crisis in this country occurred due to deregulation during the Clinton years that allowed Fannie Mae and Freddi Mac to give bad loans to people with poor credit. Also, equally liable in this mess is Alan Greenspan who himself admitted that he should have raised interest rates but thought the banks were smart enough to look out for themselves and only give credit to people with postive credit ratings. stop the blame game and face the facts.

No Amnesia here Moonbaby...I'm absolutely serious. This presidential and presidential candidates lately moving to gossip television and late night comedy is distrurbing and a sign of the times showing just where they can attract the adult population of the United States. News media is all but controlled by the government and very few actually watch it compared to such day and evening entertainment. When GW stepped in it...I was right there to object. It's just that I have much more to object about these days.

BTW....you are very long winded on obscure rhetoric and GB dillusional fantasy. How about cite some specific examples on just how President Bush sent this country spiraling into this great decline? During much of his presidency our Country was at what was considered 'full employment' and business owners and the military were actually treated with true respect and admiration. Our enemies respected or feared us and both of them are a good thing. Also how about some actual facts on how he was...."the most awful, humiliating, DEGRADING, dangerous, and ignorant, President the United States has ever seen."

President obama governing? .... :)

In Response to Dusty's Rhoades Comments on Obama Derangement Syndrome. One might want to consider the Derangement the Obama Administration has with: 1. Fox News 2. Arizona 3. Bondholders with GMC and Chrysler and Car CEOs 4. Bankers 5. Doctors that deliberately cut off feet to by a new Porsche 6. Tea Party Activists 7. Toyota ( it's becoming more apparent there was NEVER a pedal sticking problem) 8. Anyone who disagreed with Health Care Reform, (please turn these people over to us at US Gov.com, until even the ACLU said he couldn't do that) 9. Rush Limbaugh, a man who must be dealt with according to Obama If Bush had done or said any ONE of the above, there would of been a resounding scream of Impeachment under the pretense that the man was Scary !

Did a republican really just say quit watching biased sources? I'm sure you just flip right over FauxNews.

Bravo, Moonchild. I wouldn't even come back at them with facts because republicans only response is to yell "socialist" or "communist", or worse if you're at a teabagging rally. I love how one minute Obama is trying to pass law after law and bring the country to it's knees and then in the next breathe you can say he hasn't done anything and is a complete joke. Which is it folks, Is he Hitler or Carter?

0

Amazed 2 years, 9 months ago

I hope, leftfield, that you are not referring to me as a republican...not a tea party member either...I think the most appropriate party for me would be the Skeptics Party...I don't believe any of them (politicians) and think they are all out for themselves (not the citizens). I think we need to end the Fed, implement term limits for our Congress as well as implement a fair tax so that all citizens are contributing to our society. I also think that if someone is out of work and able, they should work for their state and not receive unemployment benefits beyond 3 months.

Here's some "FauxNews" tidbits for you Leftfield (How appropriate). I flip around all the channels so I can get some idea of what is actually going on in the world...But here are some ratings for both all the cable news networks and something on overall cable television ratings. I'll post the links, but here is a little quote from one. This is for the time period of the 2nd quarter, 2010...."In prime time, Fox News averaged 1.9 million viewers. It had a bigger audience than MSNBC (758,000), CNN (594,000) and HLN (487,000) combined"

Bigger audience that those others combined. I reckon a few folks are beginning to tune in there for their 'faux" news as you like to put it.....Mike

AWFUL: Every business he owned went bankrupt. He did the same to the U.S. with his Tax-Cuts for the rich. You NEVER do that during war-time. HUMILIATING: Anytime he went overseas, especially when he gave an inaproppriate backrub to Chancellor Merkel and also most stupidly said, "I trust Putin. I can see into his soul". DEGRADING: His speech to a crowd of supporters(not the working class hero's in America): "This is an impressive crowd: The Have's and Have mores. Some people call you the elites. I call you my base." DANGEROUS: He gutted many Govrn't agencies so that they could barely function and/or filled them with his slothful cronies. IGNORANT: It's not NUCULAR, it's NUCLEAR! He can't even pick up a Dictionary! I could go on...I won't. My "sources" include The NYT(I subscribe), NY Post, Rollingstone(How many of you read the McCrystal Interview? I did. I subscribe),MSNBC,CNN,Time magazine,FOXNEWS(Geraldo on Saturday nites is sorta okay),NY DAILY NEWS, WASHINGTON POST,...etc., etc. I'm guilty, I'm a news fanatic, always have been. It NEVER pays to NOT know what's going on and is why I have fortunately avoided lot's of economic and personal "potholes" along the way. Some of you need to quickly go to the library and read more, it's a little less biased than the Internet.

I choose to base my opinions, not on journalist's opinions, but rather on the actions of politicians in power...by how they vote...by what special interest groups are funding them. I've actually read the 2,000 plus page health care reform bill...have you? Yes I read the McChrystal article in Rolling Stone, too. How about economics courses? have you taken any of those? Business courses? How about basic accounting courses? Your ignorance is amazing when it comes to business decisions (I read your opinions/comments regarding the SP Steakhouse) Thanks for removing all doubt about your ignorance by opening your mouth (typing your opinion)

Moonbaby....You would have served your cause much better if you had listened to leftfield and just NOT responded. Your response to all points is a joke, more obscure jargon and a typical anti Bush rant; not even worth a counter response...and your sources for responding are...Errrrr...Not exactly unbiased sources of information that would promote what you state lastly; to know what's actually going on.

Too much time on my hands I guess so it got the best of me. As I said though before, the truth hurts and George Bush's lie's really hurt a lot of people. They are still hurting. The fact, Jack, is that the joke's on you MikeNC.......President Obama is doing his best to ERADICATE right-wing nut job thinking and move a crippled but very worthy America into the future. Guess the crazier and looney you are the more people listen.

0

Oh yes - I forgot - "The deadliest Catch" - a story about a fishing boat captain - had average viewership of ~ 3,000,000 per episode!

Not sure just what that means Mikee!

0

MikeNC 2 years, 9 months ago

Ross....That's comparing apples to grapefruits. My main point is news media and who watches what and the accuracy and non bias of our news media. I know it's slanted to a degree at all levels, but some media sources are so far out there that the viewers mide as well be listening to Howard. Howard Stern is basically in a category that he shares all by himself. If your comment of the crazier and loonier you are; the more people listening had merit....then Keith Olbermann's ratings would be through the roof. But they are off the chart in the opposite direction because most commmon sense people know pure garbage when they hear it regardless of where their personal politics fall out.

The extreme right feed the fish exactly the meal they need - like a carp feeding - I know you've seen those!

But lets put things in perspective though - a million viewers is not even "1/2" of ONE percent of the voting population of this country!

So - if you are going to gauge the popularity of conservatism by tying it to right wing radio you may need another metric.

moonchild7 2 years, 9 months ago

No, economics was not really my field; made a "D" in my college class. Too complicated. I just always tried to keep it simple when it came to money so I wouldn't get into any financial difficulties. NEVER spend more than what you have. Works every time. I own two house's(no mortgage's), two cars and two trucks(no auto payments), no credit cards, etc., etc. Back in the 70's I was one of those "back to nature" types who paid for everything with cash, baked my own bread, chopped my own firewood, hung my clothes out to dry in the sunshine, had a vegetable garden and never owed a dime when I graduated from college. Fast-forward to today: My son just graduated in June with his Masters degree and he doesn't owe a dime to anyone either. I gave him $500 4 yrs ago and told him to work and study hard. That degree cost much more than a new car does today. He worked 3 pt. time jobs and one full-time job and paid in cash every semester. He "celebrated" by taking a vacation to China to see The Great Wall, Tiananmin Square, The Forbidden City and their High Speed Rail. Yes, he voted for President Obama in 2008. I didn't read the Health Care bill....it's fine. I read the NYT front to back every morning while Rollingstone takes a week. The rest I try to "get in" sooner or later. I watch CSPAN a little but I've also been to actual Congressional debates in the Capital. I was 10 yrs old when JFK was assasinated, my family and I lived in D.C. We went to the funeral prosession as the caisson and casket were driven thru the streets, when my father put me on his shoulders so "I could see" above the crowds. It changed me forever. Hitler had followers because they were starving and term limits is called voting. Nixon was on Laugh-In and Reagan had a thing for chimps. What's your point? Howard Stern is the best media entertainer/interviewer alive. No one can compare, they're all jealous. And don't say he's disgusting, crazy or nasty. If you do then you're a hypocrite. He's the only one who's kept the First Amendment from being axed. If you can't handle Howard then you can't handle the truth. Even Barbara Walters like's to be on Howard's radio show and sit on his couch. Gee, President Obama likes to sit on the couch with Barbara too. Life has a lot of lessons to it, doesn't it? Maybe a lot of you need to just get out in the fresh air a little more.

Y'all have a fine obama day..Let's see what he does or does not do for America today! Mike

0

moonchild7 2 years, 9 months ago

Sorry again, I have that bad trait of going on and on. The subject matter was important to me but it seems to get "warped" as the conversation expands. Don't understand why President Obama's appearance on "The View" was so terrible. He needs to be seen and heard in public as much as possible. I remember in Sept. 2008 Bush DISAPPEARED after the market crash for several days(maybe a week?). What was that about? Where'd he go? President Obama's been to see first hand the Gulf, mines in WV, Detroit, WALL STREET, factories, etc., etc. Can't get enough of him. That immigration thing is pretty simple too. If the greedy business people would stop hiring them they wouldn't come here in the first place. Several families from Mexico lived near me(rentals)a year or two ago but I noticed them packing up one day. So I asked them why they were leaving and the answer again was simple, "They won't hire us anymore. There are no jobs." I still miss their vibrant music flowing out of the windows. If everyone will just stop muddling around and get this country moving again! The positive still can outmanuver the negative. My son is great, he's a "Public Servant" in another city. I only wish he'd stop working all those part time jobs and he says he will when he can find a girlfriend. Thanks. One more thing. Howard Stern is so good because he asks the questions no one else will. The information flows as long as the guests want to answer. He reminds everyone that he has the right to ask the question and they have the right not to answer. Like when he asked Barbara Walters about her sex life. She politely told him, "To mind his own business." Funny, she has class. Unlike Sharon Engle(Republican)running for the Senate in Nevada who wants the media to "Ask her the questions she gives them." That's dispicable and disengenuous.

pinwoodnc, the definition of ignorance is The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. ignorance [ˈɪgnərəns]. n. lack of knowledge, information, or education

moonchild admitted her own ignorance in economics....what's the problem??

0

dogboy 2 years, 9 months ago

..Barbara Walters felt the need to write a book exposing her affair with Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts. Yeah, she is real classy.

0

moonchild7 2 years, 9 months ago

Amazed...the problem was not that I had a condition towards ECONOMICS 101. It was that I did indeed have a PROBLEM understanding the jargon and the professor. In real life though I pass economics with an "A". So I am not ignorant because I at least tried to understand the book and the professor. President Obama is not ignorant either, he just made a mistake. We are all entitled to make some of those. Bush on the other hand IS ignorant because he continues to mispronounce words that are very simple to look up and learn in the dictionary! He has an MBA from Harvard?! My son wanted to study for an MBA but I convinced him not to, rather to try a more worthy course of study. He did and he already has been promoted. "Afterall" I said, "George Bush has one of those and he BANKRUPTED AMERICA". An MBA isn't worth the paper it's written on.

The second part of this editorial had to do with immigration and I’m very interested in having an educated discussion on this subject. In my research I came upon the United Farm Workers Challenge asking any and all unemployed Americans to apply for jobs entailing picking fruit and vegetables on our farms. They also state that “more than half of farm workers are illegal immigrants. Then UFW argues they’re not taking jobs from Americans because most don’t want the work.”

As of July 9th, 4 Americans have signed up for work.

The UFW also says “Proponents of tougher immigration laws respond that the problem with the UFW's proposition is that growers don't want to raise wages and improve working conditions enough to attract Americans.”

It seems to me that if raising wages brought more American workers to the farm work force then the price of produce would also go up. Right now it is more expensive to feed a family fresh vegetables and fruit than it is to buy meals at McDonald's and Burger King… so what is the answer?

If we really looked at the facts, this country wouldn’t survive without the immigrant work force.

The boarder states are having an unprecedented number of illegal people taxing their health care institutions and that’s a real problem we need to deal with. I don’t think strengthening our boarders is the real answer; it taxes our military and police force and creates an atmosphere of discrimination and bigotry.

Can you imagine what it takes for someone to leave family and friends to illegally cross a border into an unfamiliar country and try to make a living so that your family back in Mexico can have food and a home?

I think that’s called desperation.

Our immigration laws really need to be re-evaluated. Right now an illegal immigrant who wants to become a citizen must leave the United States for 5 years before they can submit an application to immigrate to the US. Does that really make sense?

I certainly believe that anyone who lives here illegally and commits a crime should immediately be deported back to their country without an opportunity to come back.

But what about all the wonderful hard working committed immigrants who want to live a good life and obey the laws? Why can’t they live here legally, pay taxes and follow our laws without the fear of being deported? They are obviously a needed work force in our country so why can’t we find a way to allow them to come here and work?

This isn’t a black and white issue; it needs thoughtful conversation without the usual knee jerk comments so often reflected here. I’d really like to hear what people are thinking.

0

MikeNC 2 years, 9 months ago

In Response to Sally's discussion on Illegal Immigration. Sally you are right as far finding a solution to the exodus of Illegals crossing into America. In Germany, they have a Host Country system. Turks, Italians, etc. get a card to work in their host country for up to 20 years. They must have a trade, and renew their status on a regular basis and pay taxes. After 20 years, they have to leave, or else apply for German citizenship.

Now where I disagree with you, is on the statement that I hear many people argue, "if we don't have Illegals picking our lettuce night and day in the hot sun for peanuts, lettuce would sky rocket." It sounds much like the argument Southern Democrat Plantation owners would make. "If we don't have our slaves to pick our cotton in the hot sun, night and day, the price of cotton would skyrocket.

0

moonchild7 2 years, 9 months ago

No, I haven't been brainwashed and I'm also not a "Schoolmarm" wanting the world to live and learn in a particular order. I do however wish that people would better "inform" themselves about the state of affairs that currently affect us. People are not fully informing themselves before they make a lot of really important decisions. Why would so many people purchase homes thru mortgage companies offering interest only loans or loans they know they really don't qualify for? Huh?! Why? Why do people purchase/charge things for $100, that more than likely cost only $1 to make in China? Why?! Why do people continue to question the birth certificate of President Obama? Don't you know the FBI, NSA and CIA had to check him out beforehand? I'm brainwashed? Don't think so. That's the real brainwashing buddysmith. The reason I never read the healthcare bill was because I am a former "Healthcare" worker who know's the tradgedy of trying to help those WITHOUT any health insurance. My friends who still work with those without health care have read the ENTIRE bill and have told me the positive and NEGATIVE parts. It will take a little time for all those negative pieces to get fixed. I sorta still believe in my FRIENDS. Lastly, President Obama has the same military industrial complex behind him that Bush had. That Clinton had. That Pappa Bush had. That Reagan had. That Carter had. While we were ATTACKED on Bush's watch do you think it might have been because he didn't like to READ things like TOP SECRET reports about possible attacks being planned against us? That's incompetence of "the fullest order". The military is wonderful at taking orders as long as they get the orders to begin with. Ya gotta do a little readin' n writen' and livin' to know the truth from the lies.

Heavy stuff here. Actually, I think President Obama went on "The View" because he wanted to. Nothing new. As I recall, candidate Nixon went on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh In" during the 1968 campaign. Jimmy Carter did an interview with Playboy magazine. I wonder how those things would have been scrutinized today.

Thanks for your response Mike. What about the challenge the United Farm Workers put out to the American unemployed? Check out their web site www.takeourjobs.org it's very interesting in their candidness about the situation and equally as interesting that relatively few have signed up for their challenge. They state that farm workers aren't paid enough for their jobs to be appealing to Americans. How do you support your argument in this situation?

0

MikeNC 2 years, 9 months ago

Hi Sally, I checked the link out you gave on www.takeourjobs.org. Now in their work description, they do not specify what the pay scale will be. I couldn't help but notice the picture banner across the top of the site. I almost got the impression that if I were to sign up on the site to work in the fields, that some of sad looking Hispanic women in the banner would then be forced out because of me.

One thing I need to know to continue a debate with you is: Do you advocate Illegals coming here to solely do work at a lower pay scale than Legal Immigrants to keep prices down on some goods, or do you feel we should immediately legalize them and bring their standard of living up so they can then be guaranteed at least a minimum wage and pay taxes? I don't know what your position is yet. Diane McLellan
