The semiannual Cameron Antiques Street Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 1, rain or shine.

There will be 250 dealers outside, and the town’s many antique shows will be open as well. Food and refreshments will be available; churches and civic groups will offer parking.

Yard Sale Benefit

Watch Me Grow, a local nonprofit day-care facility, is hosting a multi-family yard sale Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at 100 Grossman Drive (beside St. Joseph of the Pines off Camp Easter Road).

Some of the items for sale include household items, tools, furniture, clothes, books, toys and lots of children’s items.

All proceeds will benefit this facility and its children.

Pet Adoption Event

Area rescue groups will be at PetSmart in Aberdeen this weekend to join in the National Spring Adoption Event.

Drop by Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, to meet and hopefully adopt a pet. All pets for adoption have been spayed or neutered and are current on all inoculations, providing an affordable way to add a pet to your family.

Animal Advocates of Moore County, The Haven — Friends for Life, Moore Humane and Sandhills Animal Rescue League will be participating.

“Even if you are not ready to adopt, come visit and get to know the rescue groups and what they have to offer when you might be ready to adopt,” says a spokesman.

Free Concert at SCC

The Sandhills Community College Department of Fine Arts will hold its spring concert Tuesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Auditorium on the college campus. The concert will include performances by the SCC Guitar Ensemble, String Quartet, College Choir and graduating music students. Admission is free.

The Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Danny Infantino, features Frank Blanchard, Brett Haynes and Joey Diehl. They will play “Trio” by Bach and “Introduction and Fandango” by Boccherini.

The String Quartet, Kaitlyn Johnson, violin I, Seren Lyerly, violin II, Joey Diehl, viola, and Chase Johnson, cello, will play the Finale from Haydn's String Quartet, Opus 74, No. 3.

A special part of the program will be performances by graduating music students, Frank Blanchard, guitar major; Charity Haskins, vocal major; Tim Landry, piano major; and Seren Lyerly, violin major.

The College Choir, under the direction of Frances Wilson and accompanied by Jennifer Thomas Danis, will perform English and Italian madrigals, folk music, and a special arrangement of the Bill Withers’ classic, “Lean on Me.”

Community Day

Roseland United Methodist Church hosts its fifth annual Community Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1. This free event features food, music and games, along with door prizes.

The church is located at 181 Rose Ridge Road, Aberdeen.

Everyone planning to attend the street fair in Cameron, make sure you go by Cameron Convenient Store (Citgo Station) and buy a raffle ticket to win a 32 inch plasma TV. They are only a dollar and all the proceeds go to help a man with terminal cancer. The drawing will be May 22nd and any donations are appreciated. Mr. Tickle has pancreatic cancer and just recently lost his daughter.
