Dump Truck, SUV Collide This Morning

A head-on collision between a dump truck and SUV shut down U.S. 15-501 outside Carthage this morning.

A helicopter landed in the area of Glendale subdivision off of U.S. 15-501 to transport the driver of the SUV to UNC Hospitals. Scanner traffic indicated that the driver suffered head, chest and internal trauma. The status of the dump truck driver is not known at this time.

The wreck happened around 9:25 a.m. when the dump truck and SUV collided on U.S. 15-501 just south of the intersection with Blues Siding Road.

Traffic on the highway was diverted onto Blues Siding Road.
