UP Kickers Win 10-0 Rout

Union Pines defeated Westover with a 10-0 landslide victory Monday at Woodrow Wilhoit Stadium in Cape Fear Valley Conference soccer action.

Union Pines led 8-0 at intermission as senior Taylor Smith finished the first half with four assists. Vike senior forward Anna Pilson picked up a hat-trick in the match and doled out two assists. After scoring two goal in the opening period, she got her last score on a 48-yard scamper, which saw her juke six different Wolverines on her way to banging home a close-range shot to beat the keeper.

Both Cristina Morcom and Kayla Lively also scored two goals apiece in the first half.

Kacey Graner had two assists in the tilt, both on goals by Pilson during the first half. Other Vikes to score in the match were Rebecca Greene, Carly Lively and Katie McKenzie.

With the victory, Union Pines (10-7-1) snapped a three-match winless streak while improving to 6-2-1 in league play. The second-place Vikings take to the road Wednesday where they will face conference foe Southern Lee at 7 p.m. in Sanford.
