The Pinecrest Lady Patriots defeated Union Pines 2-0 Friday night in a nonconference, intra-county soccer clash.

With the victory, the visiting Patriots are now 5-0 in the all-time series between the two schools, with the Vikings yet to score a goal while Pinecrest has tallied 29.

All the scoring in Friday’s tilt occurred in the opening 13 minutes. Kristen Phelps got Pinecrest on the scoreboard in the sixth minute when she banged in a shot after a sharp send from Ally Parziale. Parziale then slipped in a shot of her own when she cleaned up a rebound resulting from a sizzling attempt from forward Rebecca Dupree to make the score 2-0 with 26:59 remaining in the first half.

Pinecrest placed eight of its 12 total shot on goal in the opening stanza, while Union Pines managed just two shots. In the second half, the Lady Vikes only sent one shot near the goal, while the Patriots had five tries with only one of those attempts forcing a save.

Pinecrest is now 11-3-1 overall, while the Lady Vikes are 9-7-1.

As someone who took a class called "Community Journalism," I know a few basic rules when it comes to identifying people in pictures. I know that when there are 2 people in a picture, you should always identify them by name - if they don't want to give their name, don't use the picture. However, beyond that simple basic rule, how could you refer to the Pinecrest player by her name and not do the same for the Union Pines player? I'm sure you could have asked many people on the UP side and easily have found out her name and gotten correct spelling. This seems lazy and unfair to both the player and Union Pines in general. Next time, please recognize all players involved.

transplant, you make a lot of assumptions, mostly incorrect ones. You know what they say "a little bit of information is the most dangerous thing in the world." I suggest you leave the the journalism to the pros and check out this particular reporter's track record in soccer and especially with specificity to Union Pines. Peace.
