O'Neal Kickers Play FCA to Tie

The O'Neal School's girls' soccer team played a Fayetteville Christian team ranked 13th among private schools to a 1-1 draw Tuesday at home.

The Lady Falcons erased a 1-0 halftime deficit when Maggie Jackson scored off a Madelyn Davis assist in the 63rd minute.

With the result, O'Neal moves to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in Cape Fear Independent Conference play. Fayetteville Christian entered the contest in second place in the league standings.

The Lady Falcons outshot Fayetteville Christian 19-11, although it was the visitors who scored first when Tenney Ellis broke free and beat the O'Neal keeper in the 21st minute.

The second half saw a swing in momentum, as O'Neal won the midfield from a 3-5-2 set. In addition, Jackson was moved from her sweeper position to striker. The goal was her first of the season.

For the third time in four games, O'Neal played 20 minutes of overtime. The Lady Falcons had numerous quality scoring opportunities during the extra time but was denied by the excellent play of the Fayetteville Christian keeper.

O'Neal plays Cape Fear Academy away on Friday in an important conference match.
