Village Design Group is presenting more than a dozen oil paintings by artist Sharon Schwenk.

Schwenk, who lives in Matthews, began studying oil painting in 1995 with her friend and neighbor, Connie Winters, a prominent North Carolina artist.

Since 1999, Schwenk has traveled with Winters and other artists to France for annual workshops, first as a student, then as the business manager for the events.

She has participated in -workshops throughout the United States and studied with renowned artists CW Mundy, Scott Burdick, Geoffrey Johnson, Quang Ho and plein air painter Kevin MacPherson.

Schwenk has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in North Carolina and California and has received awards including Best of Show at the 2000 Stanley County Art Show and Honorable Mention at the Charlotte Art League 2000 Juried Spring School.

"We are honored to have these beautiful paintings in our showroom," said Vicki Stone, of Village Design Group.

The art will be displayed for a limited time at Village Design Group, which is located at 1495 U.S. 15-501 in Southern Pines.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
