Shakori Hills Festival Begins Thursday in Silk Hope
Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance will hold its annual spring festival from Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25.
The festival will feature more than 50 bands and performers on two big outdoor stages, a large dance tent and an intimate cabaret tent, located on 72 farmland acres at 1439 Henderson Tanyard Road in Silk Hope. The festival also features local crafts, food, various children’s activities, environmental sustainability workshops and more in a family-friendly environment.
Featured acts include Béla Fleck, Chiwoniso, Rusted Root, Bassekou Kouyate, Donna the Buffalo, Abigail Washburn, Preston Frank, Vince Herman and Great American Taxi, Rosie Ledet and The Zydeco Playboys, Eilen Jewell, Crooked Still, Scythian, Asylum Street Spankers, Sim Redmond Band and The Hackensaw Boys
Some of the local favorites include The Beast, Orquesta GarDel, Bluegrass Experience, Big Fat Gap, Midtown Dickens, Mandolin Orange, The Gravy Boys, Club Boheme and The Music Maker Revue, featuring Cool John Ferguson, Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen, Captain Luke, Ron Hunter and Lightnin’ Wells.
Just some of the other acts on the program are Elikem African Dance, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Dark Water Rising, Kelley and The Cowboys, Possum Jenkins, The Smart Brothers, The Honeycutters, Sol and Funk Root, The Side Effects, Scatterbones, Hee Haw Nightmare, The Steamrollers, Cole Park, Daygot Leeyos Edwards, The Minglewood Ramblers, Emerson Waldorf String Band, and Red Herring Puppets.
Festival tickets are available by visiting the Web site www.shakorihills.org/tickets-info. Four day passes are $90 in advance and $100 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free. Day passes are $22 (Thursday), $30 (Friday), $37 (Saturday), and $26 (Sunday). Youth prices (13-15) are $11, $15, $18 and $13. Tent camping is $10 per tent and vehicle camping is $50 in advance and $60 at the gate.
