Sandhills Classical Christian School was the top donor for the Stop Hunger Now event on March 13.

Sandhills Rotary Club spearheaded this effort for the international hunger relief organization Stop Hunger Now, which distributes food and other life-saving aid around the world. More than 25 Moore County organizations supported the event.

Dan Askins, president of the Sandhills Rotary Club, said Sandhills Classical Christian School (SCCS) collected and donated $1,443, meaning more than 6,000 Haitians will have food to eat.

“I am constantly blown away by the generosity and giving spirit that SCCS parents, students, staff and teachers display,” he said.

Volunteers packed 40,000 meals to be distributed around the world, and the group also collected almost 1,000 pounds of food for the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care.

Volunteers included SCCS students and their parents.

“I was amazed at how many of our young people came out to help,” said SCCS Interim Headmaster Kelly Poirier. “They put us ‘old folks’ to shame. We should be leading them, and it’s the other way around.”

SCCS is a nondenominational Christian school applying the Classical methodology to foster young minds to think clearly, listen carefully, reason logically, and articulate persuasively.
