Nick Thompson Ace Highlights Pinecrest Golf Victory

The third career hole-in-one by 16-year-old Nick Thompson highlighted Pinecrest's fourth Southeastern Conference golf victory in a row at National Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
The Patriot sophomore started his round on the eighth hole and made a birdie. The ace was made with a pitching wedge on the ninth, playing at 121 yards. He finished with an even-par round of 72.
The medalist was Patriot freshman Zachary Martin with a 71. Bryan Stewart carded a 72 and Dylan Harris came in at 75 to give the Pats a team score of 290. Other scores for Coach Sandy Sackmann’s squad included a 77 by Alex Meade and a 79 by Austin Dunlap.
Second-place Purnell Swett was led by Ian Locklear with a 72. The other team scores were Purnell Swett 317, Richmond Senior 325, Lumberton 333, Scotland County 349 and Hoke County 439.
The make-up of a postponed match from earlier in the season will take place at Pinehurst No. 1 on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
