A six-member mission team from Southern Pines United Methodist Church - Michelle Aubrey, Don Bryant, Sandy Bryant, Sherry Driscoll, Gail Scott and Debbie Whitley - recently spent a week in Lima, Peru.

The team worked at the Miramar United Methodist Church converting space into a dormitory for students who attend the recently reopened United Methodist seminary in the city. They painted, installed tile in the dining room and kitchen and new plumbing in the bathrooms, hauled sand and crushed rock, and worked on a new water line to the building.

On Sunday, they traveled out to the Jose Olaya United Methodist Church, located in a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima. There they painted two classrooms and led a workshop for the children of the congregation.

This church was built over a five-year period with the help of members of the Southern Pines United Methodist Church.

The covenant between the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Iglesia Metodista del Peru was begun in the early 1990s.
