The St. Andrews Presbyterian College Western Team finished second to the University of Findlay at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Semifinals over the weekend to qualify for the national championships scheduled for May 6-9 in Lexington, Ky.

Berry College finished third to round out the national qualifiers from the event, held at the St. Andrews Equestrian Center.

“We are excited that we will be competing at the nationals again,” said coach Carla Wennberg. “The event was successful all around, and we look forward to the competition in Kentucky in May.”

In team competition areas, Brittany Powell and Megan Stiles finished second in Intermediate and Novice, respectively. Kelsey Moody finished first in the team open and reigning competitions. Kayla Hay and Leah Davison also had strong showings in the advanced and beginner team competitions, respectively.

In addition to the team qualification, St. Andrews is sending individual competitors to the national championships in four classes.

Stiles will be representing St. Andrews in Intermediate Horsemanship after a first-place finish. Shannon Leggett also earned the opportunity to compete at nationals with a second-place finish in Novice Horsemanship.

Moody will be competing in both Open Horsemanship and Reining after second-place finishes in both classes during the semifinals.
