FCA Night of Champions
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is presenting a "Night of Champions" with nationally known speaker Reggie Dabbs on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Grace Church in Southern Pines.
All kids in fifth grade and up, and all adults, are welcome to attend the free event. Free pizza will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Dabbs has been speaking to school audiences since 1987. He has an inspirational story and message that he tells with a humorous style.

Special Olympics Benefit
The Second Moore County Golf Tournament to benefit the Special Olympics will be held Oct. 19 at National Golf Club.
Field will be limited to 120 participants.
Cost is $250 per individual or $800 per team.
Proceeds from the event fund programs for Special Olympians in Moore County.
The tournament will be a Texas scramble format with a one-ball best net scoring.
The tournament will feature prizes, lunch, on-course beverages, player receptions, awards banquet and closest to the pin contest.

SCC Basketball Clinic
The Sandhills Community College basetball coaches clinic will be held Oct. 5-6.
For coaches who arrive on Oct. 5, there will be a chance to watch an SCC practice from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Heins Gymnasium followed by a coaches' social and roundtable chat in Clement Dining Room in the Dempsey Center.
Four 45-minute sessions will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 6.
Lunch and golf will be held at Whispering Pines Country Club at 12:45 p.m.
Scheduled to speak are Dip Metress of Augusta State University, Rob Moxley of UNC Charlotte, Pete Strickland of N.C. State.
Cost is $75 per person.

Youth Basketball League
Moore County Parks and Recreation is taking registration for the youth basketball league ages 5-12, boys and girls.
Age is determined as of October 16, 2009. Cost is $20 per player. Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 16.
If you wish to sign up your child/children for basketball, you can visit the Moore County Parks and Recreation office located at 155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage.
Proof of age is required at time of registration if you have not participated in any of our programs before.
Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Youth Cheerleading
Moore County Parks and Recreation is taking registration for the youth cheerleading leagues ages 5-8 and 9-12.
These leagues will cheer during our basketball season.
Age is determined as of Oct. 16. Cost is $45 per person (this includes uniform and pom-poms). Girls will need to be measured for uniforms. Registration deadline is Friday Oct. 16. If you wish to sign up your child/children for cheerleading, you can do so at the Moore County Parks and Recreation office located at 155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage.

Quail Unlimited Banquet
The Sandhills Chapter of Quail Unlimited will host its annual fund-raising banquet on Oct. 1 at the Webb Farm in Ellerbe. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets should be purchased in advance.
Activities to include: a meal, raffle, games, live and silent auctions.

Youth Basketball Camps
A youth basketball camp for boys and girls that focuses on basic skills of dribbling, shooting, passing and rules of the game, will be held at First Health's Center for Health and Fitness through October.
Camp for those in grades 1-3 on Oct. 9 and grades 7-8 on Oct. 16. Cost is $25. Space is limited.
