A rezoning request to allow bomb-sniffing dog training on McIntosh Road has been continued until October.

Planning Director Joey Raczkowski told the Moore County Board of Commissioners Monday night that the Planning Board voted to table the matter until an October meeting after a special meeting earlier in the day attracted a flurry of questions and public comment.

Raczkowski said the Planning Board meeting lasted three hours and 15 minutes for discussion and comment from the public with numerous questions about the prospective business.

The commissioners voted unanimously to table the matter until their Oct.19 meeting to give the Planning Board time to continue its study process.

For the benefit of numerous residents of the community who were in attendance at the commissioners' night meeting, Commissioner Tim Lea explained that the board was delaying its action until the matter moves through the Planning Board process. Raczkowski added that the hearing would be re-advertised and notices would again be mailed to adjacent property owners.

The Planning Board's meeting schedule was speeded up in order for that panel to make its recommendations in time for the commissioners' meeting that night, as a means of meeting a contract deadline between the applicant K2 Solutions and the U.S. military.

More details will appear in the print version of The Pilot.
