Sports Briefs: PHS Jayvee Football Wins Again

The Pinecrest jayvee football team improved to 4-0 with a 20-0 win at Western Harnett, Thursday evening. The Patriot freshmen also racked up a win on the road, taking the measure of South View, 28-0, to move to 2-1 on the season.

In the jayvee contest, the Patriots took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Quarterback Dannie Monroe connected with wide receiver Marshall Smith on a 65-yard scoring play. Later in the period,running back Tavist Pearson scored after a 15-yard scamper.

The Patriots' final touchdown came on an eight-yard run by Monroe. Jeremy Brock converted two of his three extra point tries and the Patriot defense allowed a total of only 150 yards to the Tiger offense.

At South View, Jermey Klemik opened the scoring for the Patriot freshmen with a five-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The other scores came on a 40-yard dash by Nicholas Lacy, a 25-yard run by Zach Strickland and a 35-yard pass from quarterback Matt Epley to Frankie Painter.

The Patriot defense held their opponent to just two first downs for the second game in a row. Daniel Harman intercepted a pass for the Patriots. Brandon Stonesifer recovered a fumble on a ball jarred loose by teammate Jonah Caliri.
