Patriots Get Win in Volleyball

The Pinecrest girls' volleyball team improved to 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference with a 25-10, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-20 home victory over Purnell Swett, Thursday evening.
The Patriots jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first game, but gave the visitors some life by committing six service errors in the second set loss. Midway through the third game, the Pats regained control when freshman Megan Thomas set up junior Addy George for three kills in a row and a 20-12 lead. Janea Williams, another freshman, kept things going with two straight wins at the net, making it 23-13.
With the fourth game tied at 13-13, Ashleigh McKenzie had two kills in a row, one off a set by Paige Horne. Later in the game, Thomas set up Horne and George for kills in addition to one of her own.
George finished with 14 kills and six digs while Thomas was credited with 14 assists and eight digs. Horne served for 17 points to go with nine assists and 10 digs. Sarah Harrison served for 10 points. McKenzie and Williams each had seven kills, and Addey Nelson contributed six digs.
Pinecrest upped its overall record to 5-6 while Purnell Swett dropped to 0-3 in the league and 7-4 overall. The Patriots are at home for conference action next Tuesday with Richmond Senior providing the opposition. The Rams defeated the Patriots 25-22, 24-26 and 25-19 in the jayvee match.
