The Moore County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the 2010 Moore County Leadership Institute (MCLI) class.
Chamber member business and community leaders interested in participating in the 2010 MCLI program should visit www.moorecountychamber.com or contact the Chamber to obtain an application. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 18.
The mission of MCLI is to develop effective leaders. There is a universal need for leadership, according to the Chamber of Commerce. It developed MCLI in 1989.
The goal is to develop a broader base of informed, committed and qualified individuals capable of providing dynamic leadership and work for positive community change in Moore County. To date, MCLI has more than 400 graduates.
The objectives of MCLI are:
n Understanding Moore County.
n Expanding business and personal networks.
n Building leadership skills.
n Finding a place to serve.
Class participants will have the opportunity to explore various leadership topics and engage in team-building exercises. In addition they will review and discuss local issues affecting education, government, agriculture, tourism and health care. An important part of MCLI is developing class projects that address community issues raised during the year.
"Effective leaders think about the future and what they can do to make that future brighter," said Patrick Coughlin president and CEO of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce. "The MCLI program helps participants understand the dynamics of effective leadership and decision making. Participants study our community infrastructure, analyze their own individual leadership styles/roles,and further develop their leadership skills.
"MCLI challenges emerging and existing leaders in our community to expand their professional network, develop a systemic understanding of how our community works and examine potential solutions to the important issues that impact Moore County's future."
To be considered as a candidate for MCLI, individuals must complete an application by 5 p.m. today (Friday). Applications after this date and time will not be considered. Completing an application does not guarantee a spot in the MCLI program.
The fee to participate is $795 and includes a two-day retreat, all meals and course materials for 12 months. Partial scholarships are available.
All applications are reviewed by a selection committee. Nominees for the 2010 class will be notified by October.
