Sports Briefs: SCC Volleyball Wins

The Sandhills CC Flyers volleyball team posted its second consecutive win with a 25-10, 25-15, 25-22 win over Central Carolina CC on Thursday. The Flyers (3-2) were led by Amber Otkin and Sarah Thomas, who had nine kills each. Otkin added 13 digs and Thomas had four aces. Bethany Neller and Stephanie Powell each had six kills. Alisha Ritter and Angie Cruz, both North Moore High School graduates, combined for 35 assists. Neller added three aces and Cruz had two.
SCC head coach Alicia Hill called her team's effort against CCCC the best of the season.
"They were talking, relaxed and had confidence," she said. "Every single player contributed to our win and I am very proud of the way the girls are coming together as a team."
The Flyers will host Brunswick CC at 6 p.m. Sept. 16.
Pinecrest Tennis Sweeps a Pair of Conference Matches
The Pinecrest girls' tennis team swept a pair of conference meets this week.

PHS Volleyball Wins Conference Opener
The Pinecrest volleyball team won its Southeastern Conference opener at Lumberton, Thursday evening, 25-13, 21-25, 25-11 and 25-18.
The Patriots, now 4-5 overall, continue league play with a match at Scotland County on Tuesday.
Addy George had 16 kills and five digs in the win over the Pirates. Paige Horne was the assist leader with 17. Other contributors included, Ashleigh McKenzie, five kills, six digs, Megan Thomas 12 assists, Janea Williams, eight kills, and Felicia Painter, five blocks.
Pats Cross Country Take Conference Meets
The Pinecrest boys and girls both finished first in Tuesday's first Southeastern Conference cross country tri-meet held at Hoke County. The Patriots' Ashley Brock took individual honors with a time of 20:18 over the 5K course. The next 11 runners to cross the finish line were Patriot teammates. Jennie Cunningham (21:24), Sarah Lindsay Pressley (21:30), Kara Zoellner (22:28) and Katana Lemelin (22:30) took the second through fifth places, giving the Pats a perfect team score of 15.
The Patriot girls taking the sixth through 12th spots were Caitlin Walsh (22:38), Hanna Bornhorst (22:54), Beth Hieronymus (23:03), Brittany Sayers (23:05), Lauren Bonville (23:18), Jenna Woronoff (23:21) and Hayden Rudd (23:49).
The Richmond Senior girls came in second with 61 points followed by Hoke with 67.
The Pinecrest boys finished with 24 points followed by Richmond with 62 and Hoke with 73. Eli Locklear of Richmond was first with a time of 17:52. Leading the Patriots were Nathan Frederique in second place (18:04), Graham Hawes, fourth (18:35) and Spencer Rhyne, fifth (19:07).
Rounding out the first 10 Patriot boys were George Hayes, sixth (19:11), Garrett Williams, seventh (19:21), Connor Kelly, eighth (19:36), Leigh Pember, ninth (19:41), Jacob Troutman, 11th (19:56), Deaton Wright, 15th (21:17) and Alex Brown, 17th (21:21).
A number of the Patriot runners remained at Pinecrest preparing for Saturday's meet at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro. The next conference meet will be held at the Elk's Club course on Tuesday. The first race at 4:15 will be a combined boys and girls middle school run. The high school boys will run at 5 p.m. with the girls to follow.
St David's Volleyball Hands Falcons Second Loss
The St. David's volleyball team defeated O'Neal for the second time this season on Thursday, winning 19-25, 25-18, 26-24, 10-25 and 15-10.
Alex DiMaggio had 16 kills and 14 digs for the Falcons. Kate Fedder added six service aces. Katherine Kelly had four solo blocks.
The Falcons move to 6-2 on the season and will host Fayetteville Academy at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
