Once again, The Fresh Market will close its doors for a special wine tasting gala to benefit the programs and services of the Arts Council of Moore County.

The gala will take place Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Fresh Market is located at 155 Beverly Lane in Southern Pines.

"We are most appreciative of The Fresh Market's willingness to host a Wine Gala on our behalf," says Connie Petrillo, chair of the Appetite for Art Fund Raising Committee. "Last year's gala was a huge success, and we are so fortunate to have their continued support of the Arts Council's Appetite for Art fund raising program."

The Fresh Market got its start on March 8, 1982, in Greensboro. Founded by Ray and Beverly Berry, The Fresh Market was the fulfillment of a dream -- to develop a better grocery store that brought back the feeling of open, European style markets.

Fresh Market enthusiasts will agree that the Berrys' concept has transformed grocery shopping into a new experience. With low-level lighting, the sounds of classical music in the background, fresh meats and fish, and other specialty, hard-to-find grocery items, Fresh Market stores have grown from one store in Greensboro in 1982 to 90 stores in 17 states.

Still family owned and operated, The Fresh Market has a history of giving back to the community. Their Wine Galas not only offer quality wine ,but also serve up heavy hors d'oeuvres, prime rib, shrimp cocktail, and distinctive cheeses. Discounts up to 15 percent will be available to attendees who purchase wine during the Sept. 22 exclusive event.

The Arts Council has offered art programs and services throughout Moore County for over 30 years. Some include the annual Fine Arts Festival, the Classical Concert Series at the Sunrise Theater, wonderful ARTours to shows and galleries outside of Moore County, and art grant and scholarship programs.

Tickets for the gala are $25 per person and can be purchased at the Arts Council, located at the Campbell House, 482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines.
