Police Briefs: Deputies Seize Pound of Cocaine, Arrest Two

Two individuals were arrested in the parking lot of a West End grocery store Monday with almost a pound of powder cocaine.
Esteban Chaparro, 42, and Jesus Vargas Carrion, 53, face several charges related to trafficking in cocaine after officers with the Moore County Sheriff's Office narcotics and select enforcement units concluded an investigation, a press release said. Officers seized 426 grams of powder cocaine, $1,222 and digital scales in the parking lot.
Officers also searched a residence located at 145 Hayes Drive near Eagle Springs and found an additional 15 grams of powder cocaine. The estimated value of the drugs seized is $44,100.
Chaparro, who lived at the Eagle Springs residence, is charged with three counts of felony trafficking in cocaine, felony conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, two counts of felony maintaining a place to keep controlled substances and felony deliver cocaine. He was jailed and his bail set at $250,000.
Carrion, who is from Troy, is charged with three counts of felony trafficking in cocaine, felony conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a place to keep controlled substance and felony deliver cocaine. He was jailed and his bail set at $250,000.
