Patriots Can't Hold Off Raiders

Richmond ripped off 35 unanswered points in the second half in handing Pinecrest a 69-35 loss in Southeastern Conference football tonight at John Williams Stadium.

Pinecrest led 35-34 early in the third period, but fell victim to the relentless offensive attack of the visiting Raiders in falling to 8-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Richmond improved to 9-1 and 4-0 in the conference.

In a game that was competitive for the first 27 minutes, Pinecrest and Richmond traded scores back-and-forth before the Raider onslaught wore out the Patriots. More than 5,000 fans packed the stadium to witness the contest.

Pinecrest returned the game's opening kickoff for a touchdown to take a quick 7-0 lead. The Patriots would lead twice more in the first half, taking a 14-7 lead and a 17-14 lead. Richmond would score twice more to the Patriots once in taking a 28-23 halftime lead.

Early in the second half, the tit-for-tat continued as Pinecrest went ahead 29-28 and 35-34 before the Raiders exploded for the 35 unanswered points.

Pinecrest ends the regular season next week with a game against Hoke County.
