Several Local Residents Take Medals at State Senior Games

The following local residents took prizes at the Senior Games Finals held in the Triangle area recently:
Walt Evick, of Southern Pines, won a gold medal in the discus throw competition.
Allen Ashdown, of Pinehurst, won a gold medal in the bowling doubles competition.
Ellen Black, of West End, won a bronze medal in the croquet competition.
Chuck Brokenbrough, of Southern Pines, won a silver medal in the bowling doubles competition.
Marin Brooks, of Pinehurst, won a gold medal in both the 5K and 10K cycling competition.
Maureen BurkeHoransky, of Pinehurst, won a bronze medal in the SilverArts Literary Arts competition.
Frances Caudill, of Robbins, won a gold medal in the state finals bocce tournament.
Edwin Cockman, of Robbins, won a silver medal in the shuffleboard and a silver medal in the football throw competition.
Mary Crusius, of Southern Pines, won a gold medal in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash, table tennis singles, tennis mixed doubles, and a silver medal in the tennis singles competition.
W.F. Ritter, of Robbins, participated in the Silver Striders Fun Walk and also won a silver medal in the spin casting competition.
Roger Fromm, of Whispering Pines, won a silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle, a gold medal in both the 100-yard individual medley and 100-yard freestyle competition.
Bill Greene, of Robbins, won a silver medal in the state finals bocce tournament.
Vi Janz, of Carthage, won a bronze medal in the bowling singles competition and a gold medal in the bowling mixed doubles competition.
Wes Janz, of Carthage, won a gold medal in the bowling mixed doubles competition.
Gene McConville, of Whispering Pines, won a silver medal in the softball tournament competition.
Marc Phillips, of Carthage, won a bronze medal in the racquetball competition.
Beth Whitman, of Southern Pines, won a gold medal in the table tennis singles and tennis singles and a silver medal in the basketball shooting competition.
Barbara Schofield, of Pinehurst, won a bronze medal in both the bowling doubles competition.
Teresa Scott, of Aberdeen, won a bronze medal in the bowling singles and bowling doubles competition.
John "Red" Sheridan, of Pinehurst, won a gold medal in the tennis mixed doubles competition.
Carolyn Smit, of Pinehurst, won a bronze medal in the croquet competition.
Jim Streckfus, of Pinebluff, won a gold medal in the billiards competition.
Daisy Watson, of Pinehurst, won a gold medal in the shuffleboard competition.
Senior Games in the Pines is part of a statewide network of 54 local programs sanctioned by North Carolina Senior Games, Inc.
NCSG is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing year-round health promotion and education for adults 55 years of age and better.
Qualification for next year's finals will be held in the spring at local senior games across North Carolina.
