Retreat Focuses on Women

An inspirational retreat for all area women will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Aberdeen.
The retreat theme, "Triumph Over Trials," will be presented in four main sessions followed by question-and-answer periods by participants and a panel.
Speakers include Carolyn Helms, Minister of Children and Families at St. Luke United Methodist Church; Kathee Dishner, local businesswoman and author; Tarshima Hackett, associate professor of developmental English at Sandhills Community College; and June Vetter, freelance writer and speaker for Christian Women's Club.
Carolyn Helms is a popular speaker throughout the Sandhills area. A native of Chatham, Va., she is a graduate of Medical College of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in nursing and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master's degree in religious education.
She previously served as chaplain of Sandhills Hospice and taught nursing at Sandhills Community College.
Helms and her husband, David, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Southern Pines, have lived in Southern Pines for 26 years.
Kathee Dishner is the club manager for the Country Club of North Carolina. She will share from her book, "Ask Him into Your Heart," in which she shares in a candid and honest tone how to follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
Now in its second printing, the book has been used to minister as far as Ecuador, Cayman Islands and Europe, reaching people of all ages and backgrounds.
Dishner and her husband, Jess, a partner in Accent Design Build II, have lived in the Sandhills for the past 23 years.
Evangelist Tarshima Hackett serves as an associate minister at Solid Rock Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Jackson Springs, with Pastor Judie Hackett, in addition to her position at Sandhills Community College.
She has a bachelor's degree in English media journalism and a masters degree in educational technology/broadcast media, both from North Carolina Central University in Durham.
June Vetter served on the staff of Park Street Church in Boston as women's outreach coordinator and editor of The Park Street Spire for more than nine years; women's associate in the "Singles Again Ministry" at Calvary Church in Charlotte, where her husband served as associate pastor; and as assistant to Dr. Leighton Ford in Charlotte and editor of Hopeline, the quarterly newsletter of Leighton Ford Ministries
She is married to Bob Vetter, retired pastor and businessman. Both June and Bob are speakers for Christian Women's Club.
Music will be presented by Jane Jackson, Darlene Skinner and Sandy Tremblay.
