Pinecrest used a devastating serving game to sweep Lumberton 25-8, 25-17 and 25-8 in a first round Southeastern Conference tournament volleyball match at James Moore Gym Monday evening.

Patriot servers finished with 17 aces, including eight by Sara Harrison in the third set alone. Coach Barbara Foxx's third-seeded team took an 11-9 record into Tuesday's semifinal match against Richmond Senior, the No. 2 seed, in Rockingham.

Purnell Swett and regular season conference champion Scotland County were to meet in the other semifinal contest. The tournament concludes on Wednesday at the home court of the highest remaining seed.

The Patriot serving game helped set up an attack that was also very efficient. Addy George (16), Janea Williams (seven), Ashleigh McKenzie (five) and Felicia Painter (four) combined for 32 kills. Megan Thomas was credited with 15 assists and Paige Horne had 10. Arielle Fairley led in digs with seven.

Addey Nelson served for 12 points (three aces) and Horne (three aces) and Harrison finished with 11 each.
