Xavier Scotton had two long touchdown passes to Keyon Smith, but they were sandwiched around East Montgomery touchdowns of 72, 65, 43 and 32 yards as the Eagles took a 27-14 win over homestanding North Moore Friday night.
Senior East Montgomery tailback Harold Pratt used just four carries to gain 144 yards and found the end zone on runs of 73 and 65 yards to lead an Eagle offense that rushed for 281 of its 333 total yards.
"We prepared for the I (formation), but they just ran it down our throats," said North Moore head coach Butch Cleveland.
On the Mustangs' first offensive possession, Scotton found Smith behind the Eagle defense for a 25-yard touchdown pass. North Moore's only other score came when Scotton passed to Smith for a 73-yard touchdown with 39 seconds remaining in the game.
East Montgomery, which led 14-6 at halftime, overcame two first-half turnovers, a botched punt which resulted in a safety and 15 penalties for 110 yards to improve to 4-3-1 overall and 2-2 in Yadkin Valley Conference play.
North Moore remains winless at 0-8 and 0-4 in conference play.
Demetrius Brown led North Moore's ground attack with 66 yards on 14 carries. He and Shad Painter recovered East Montgomery fumbles, and Brown and Tim Threadgill recorded sacks.
North plays again Friday hosting South Stanly.
