The Sandhills Chapter of SCORE (Counselors to America's Small Business) will continue its free "Business Basics" series of seminars Saturday, Oct. 10, with the popular "Accounting for You and Me."

The seminar begins at 9 a.m. in room 103 of Van Dusen Hall on the Sandhills Community College campus. Registration is required and may be done by calling 695-3938 or sending an e-mail to neelym@sandhills.edu.

There will also be an opportunity for registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the seminar.

Effective management of a small business requires a comprehensive understanding of its financial aspects, a SCORE news release said.

This informative seminar features Howard Gartman, an experienced local certified public accountant, who will make the "world of accounting" easy to understand.

The program will provide valuable insights and understanding into the key financial documents vital to every business.

The purpose is not to teach accounting, but to create savvy owners who will be able to manage their business much more efficiently knowing how to translate the numbers, look for trends and relationships and make informed decisions, the news release said.

SCORE is a nationwide nonprofit association of experienced business people who provide free and confidential business counseling to small business owners. The Sandhills chapter is very active in counseling, mentoring and presenting free business seminars.
