Autumnfest Beckons Residents to Downtown Park

Crafts, live entertainment, rides and races -- there's something to interest everyone in the family at the 31st annual Autumnfest.

The festival is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Downtown Park in Southern Pines.

Runners and walkers alike can take the starting line for the 1 mile fun run/walk at 9:30 a.m. or the 5K run at 9:50 a.m. Pre-register at the Southern Pines Recreation Office or register on site beginning at 8:30 a.m. under the Rainey Shelter. Awards will be presented to the top finishers in age categories.

Headlining Autumnfest entertainment at noon will be Moore County's own bluegrass band, South Ridge Bluegrass.

Other groups appearing include the Sandhills School of Performing Arts at 10 a.m., Chris "Juggleboy" Fowler at 10:30 a.m., Happy Dan the Magic Man at 1 p.m., Terpsichore-A Moving Experience at 2 p.m., a Martial Arts Academy demonstration at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and the Carolina Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m.

In addition to the entertainment, Interactive Playgrounds will provide inflatable rides and other games for kids of all ages, such as the Super Obstacle Course, Inflatable Joust, Clubhouse Combo, and Double-Shot Basketball.

Craft booths run the gamut from traditional woodworking to stained glass to quilts. Food booths will be available as well.

The event is presented by the Arts Council of Moore County and Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department, and sponsored by Aberdeen Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Johnny O's Awards, Sandhills Trophy and Sports and Embarq.
