UP Girls, Patriot Boys Advance in Pilot Cup

Pinecrest's boys and Union Pines' girls advanced in the first session of the Pilot Cup Saturday afternoon at North Moore.
The Lady Vikings took a 47-38 win over the rival Lady Patriots in the tournament opener, led by an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double from Alishia Mosley. The senior North Carolina A&T signee added four steals and three blocks for Union Pines (2-1), which advances to the championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the North Moore-O'Neal School game that opens the second session.
Tyesha McLean added 12 points, four assists and five steals, and Crystal Hicks had a 10-rebound, 10-steal double-double to go along with six assists and two points.
Pinecrest (0-2) was led by Candice Seagraves' 12 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Jennie Joy had seven points, five assists and five rebounds.
In the boys' game, Union Pines led 57-56 with 1:03 remaining, but Pinecrest scored the last five points to prevail 61-57.
Faronte Drakeford led the Patriots (2-0) with 14 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and two blocks. Julian Brewer added 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Chris Henderson led the Vikings (1-1) with 26 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks.
The last three times the Vikings have faced Pinecrest in the Pilot Cup, they've blown fourth-quarter leads.
The Patriots, who have never lost in Pilot Cup play, advance to the championship game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at North Moore against the winner of the North Moore-O'Neal School nightcap.
The consolation games will be played Monday at North Moore at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
