A proposed shopping center that would include a Food Lion grocery store cleared two more hurdles Wednesday at the Whispering Pines regular meeting.
Council voted unanimously 4-0 to approve a lighting plan and a landscaping plan from developers JDH Capital. Council member Randy Saunders was absent from the meeting.
Council did not consider a sign plan for the development because the plan presented did not meet village ordinance standards. Council, instead, instructed the developers to resubmit a more detailed plan that fit within the ordinance requirements.
The proposed shopping center has been off and on the council agenda for nearly three years.
Council voted 3-1 to have engineer John Eddy re-bid the design options for the repairs to Cardinal Lake Dam. Council received the first bids for the repair work in late October. The lowest of those bids came in nearly $400,000 more than Eddy's initial repair estimate.
The action will allow for the project to be revised and rebid.
