Pinecrest's boys soccer team is one win away from playing for the state championship, as the Patriots hosts Green Hope Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Class 4A semifinals.
The Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament champion, Pinecrest (17-4-1) advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0 overtime win at New Hanover Saturday.
Gray Anderson scored the winning goal in the second overtime period off an assist from Jack Talton.
Green Hope (18-2-4), the top seed from the Tri-Nine Conference, won 1-0 over Durham Riverside in the quarterfinals and upset top-ranked Durham Jordan earlier in the playoffs.
Green Hope is ranked third in this week's N.C. Soccer Coaches Association Class 4A poll, while Pinecrest is ranked fifth.
The winner of Wednesday's game will represent the East Region in the Class 4A championship game Friday or Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
