The Moore County Literacy Council announces the creation of two new Web sites.
The new agency site is interactive and allows for online inquiries, tutor time sheet submissions and donations through Pay Pal.
"Even as the site was being tested," says Program Director Pam Giambelluca, "an inquiry came in about volunteer opportunities. We had to e-mail our webmaster to see if the inquiry was part of a test or for real. As it turned out, the person making the inquiry was able to attend an orientation session the very next day."
As its name suggests, the other site is devoted entirely to the Annual Spelling Bee for Literacy.
"The site is a work in progress," says web designer and Spelling Bee Committee member Lynne Peterson.
It currently provides basic information about the Feb. 24 event, including an online team application and payment option, pictures from past events and sponsor information. More will be added on a regular basis as the Bee approaches, possibly including a live stream of the event itself.
Both sites are donations. Erik Maroney of LTC Web Solutions designed the agency site, and Lynne Peterson of LAPGraphics is creating the Bee site.
"We are very grateful for Erik's and Lynne's generosity," says Executive Director Susan Sherard. "We hope that both sites will increase public awareness about our mission, and also make it easier for volunteers and donors to interact with us."
