Butch Cleaveland has resigned as North Moore's head football coach, according to a press release sent out by Moore County Schools.
In a letter to Athletic Director Bob Collins and Principal Scott Absher, Cleaveland said he was stepping down to spend more time with his family. Cleaveland served as an assistant coach for two years and as head coach for the past three years.
He'll remain at the school in his position as English teacher, the press release said.
"We appreciate the hard work and dedication of Coach Cleaveland and wish him and his family well," said Collins.
Despite falling in 23 of its last 25 games, North Moore sent Cleaveland out a winner with a 22-13 triumph at Chatham Central last Friday. The Mustangs avoided a winless season with the win to finish the season with a 1-10 overall record, including 1-6 in Yadkin Valley 1A Conference play.
According to Collins, the school will begin the search for a new coach immediately and will fill the position as soon as possible.
