Schustrom Earns All-State as Lady Pats Finish Eighth

Pinecrest's Lexie Schustrom earned first team all-state honors with a 10th place finish at Saturday's 4A state cross country championships held at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons.
The East Regional and Southeastern Conference champion finished the 5-kilometer race with a time of 18:59. The winner was Laura Hoer of T.C. Roberson in 18:13, one second better than runner-up Carolyn Baskir of East Chapel Hill.
The Patriots slipped by some higher-ranked teams to finish eighth in the competition won by Green Hope. Ashley Brock, another Patriot senior, also ran a strong race, finishing 29th with a time of 19:40.
Others competing for coach John Buchholz's squad included Jennie Cunningham, 69th (20:45), Haley Germain, 71st (20:45), Sarah Lindsay Pressley, 82nd (21:00), Alexa Zoellner, 97th (21:22) and Caitlin Walsh, 108 (21:57).
Sanderson unseated two-time defending champion Broughton to win the boys' title. The individual winner was Patrick Forsyth of East Forsyth with a time of 15:47.
The top finisher for the 13th-place Pinecrest boys was senior Dalton Allen in 40th place with a time of 17:14. Also representing the Patriot boys coached by Jeremy Swofford were Craig Baggett, 59th (17:25), Tyler Clark, 89th (17:56), Nathan Frederique, 90th (17:57), Jacob Allen, 91st (17:58), Landon Sherwood, 105th (18:12) and Jared Walters, 108th (18:16).
Another successful season for the Pinecrest boys and girls included Southeastern Conference titles. The Patriot girls were third and the boys came in fourth at the East Regional.
