SCC Drops Guilford JV

Sandhills Community College's basketball team went on the road to face Guilford's JV team Wednesday night and came away with a 96-73 win.

The Flyers (2-0) led the entire game, taking a 50-29 lead into halftime and leading by as many as 37 points in the second half.

Hilary McLaurin was the leading scorer with 20 points and made 4 of 5 from behind the 3-point line.

German Bostic added 18 points on 8 of 16 shooting, and Jermaine Emanuel added 11 points and a team-high three assists.

The Flyers had 20 assists on 38 made field goals and shot 53 percent from the field (38 of 72). They made 10 of 27 3-point attempts and forced 24 Guilford turnovers while turning the ball over 10 times themselves.

Guilford shot 54 percent but attempted only 54 field goals and made just 1 of 6 3-pointers.

Jacob Darr was Sandhills' leading rebounder with three and Michael Dunkins and Clay Thorne both had two steals apiece.

The Flyers are back in action Friday and Saturday at a tournament being hosted by Louisburg College. They play Southside Community College (Va.) Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Tidewater Community College (Va.) Saturday at 5 p.m.
