Matrone Places Fifth

Alex Martone and Copperfield placed fifth at the Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia CIC2 held May 15-17. Martone's score qualifies her to try out for the Young Riders' team and championships to be held in July, in Lexington, Ky.

Rescue Organization Formed

Healing Hearts Equine Rescue has been developed to help abused and/or neglected horses. Horses surrendered to the organization, whether by an owner or by animal control, will be fostered at private farms. Horses will be rehabilitated and evaluated to find the best job for them. The rescue group is interested in anyone wanting to foster a horse. Contact Libby Schmittdiel for more information at 910-639-2482.

Tack Sale

Healing Hearts Equine Rescue is having a tack sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 13 at Sandhills Feed Supply, 775 S. Bennett Street, Southern Pines. Donations of all equine items are needed. For information call Libby Schmittdiel at 910-639-2482 or Olivia Bongers at 910-692-3969. The money raised will go toward applying for non-profit status and to help rehabilitate horse in need.

Black Fly Treatment Program

The Black Fly Treatment Program is continuing in Southern Pines and Moore County in an effort to rid horse country of Buffalo Flies, more commonly known as black flies. For more information on treatment, or to contribute to the treatment program, contact David Quist at 245-4428.
