The Pinehurst Fair Barn came alive Friday, May 15, with the joyful sounds of the Big Band Era as a crowd gathered for a fun-filled evening to raise money for the North Carolina Special Olympics.
The evening included a delicious meal served by the White Rabbit Catering Service, and a musical concert with dancing provided by the Eddie Barrett Orchestra.
Emerson Cole served as emcee for the program of re-creations of Benny Goodman music. A delightful dance demonstration was put on by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Those in attendance were magically transported back to the 1930s for an evening that ended all too quickly.
This event and upcoming benefits for Special Olympics are sponsored by members of the Pinehurst Police Department.
Next on the agenda is an evening of shag music and dancing featuring the musical artistry of the Sand Band Friday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fair Barn. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Pinehurst Police Department or at the door. The meal will again be served by White Rabbit Catering.
"Come out for an enjoyable evening with the proceeds all going to the North Carolina Special Olympics," says a spokesman.
