PHS Basketball Camp
The Patriot basketball camp for rising third through ninth grade boys and girls has been set for June15 through June 18. Each session will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Pinecrest High School gym.
The camp is geared toward those boys and girls desiring to improve their individual basketball skills through learning the fundamentals of the game. Each day will include camp competitions and organized team play with other campers. The activities also include an ice cream party. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and handbook.
Pinecrest head boys' basketball coach Mike Apple is the camp director. The camp staff and speakers also include Patriot girls' head coach Alvita Thomas, members of the coaching staff at Pinecrest and other area coaches. Present and former members of the Pinecrest boys and girls basketball teams will also be assisting.
The cost of the camp is $45 per person. Checks should be made out to Pinecrest High School. For additional inofrmation, call Coach Mike Apple at 692-6554.
Sandhills Optimist Football and Cheerleading Registration
Sandhills Optimist Club is accepting registration for tackle football for children ages 6-12 and for cheerleaders for children in grades K-6. Cost is $100 per player for ages 8-12 and $55 per player ages 6-8 and for all cheerleaders.
Ages are determined as of July 2009. Registration deadline is June 15.
The Optimist offer disciplined, competitive and fun football under the guidance and coaching of dedicated coaches. Cheerleaders will be given the chance to cheer on teams, pep up the crowds and improve their cheer skills.

Aberdeen Machine Pitch Baseball League
Come join Aberdeen's Summer Machine Pitch Baseball League. This activity is available for children ages 6-7-8 who are looking to participate in baseball during the summer. Practices will begin in June. Fees are $12 for residents and $25 for non-residents. The registration deadline is May 28. BackPack Pals Golf
The Women of Seven Lakes will host a golf tournament to benefit BackPack Pals on May 15 at Beacon Ridge. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Format is captain's choice with an entry fee of $65 per person.

Little Patriot Football Camp
Dates have been set for the Little Patriots Youth Football Summer Camp.
The first phase, a technique camp, will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on June 11 and 12. The second phase, a full padded camp, is also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 6 through 10.
Sponsored by Sandhills Optimist Club, the camp is available for students enrolled in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The staff will be led by Pinecrest head football coach Chris Metzger, members of his staff and area guest coaches.
The cost is $200 per person. Checks should be made payable to Sandhills Optimist Club. Registration deadline is June 1. No child will be excluded because of financial hardship.
All drills and sessions will be conducted in groups based on age. The camp combines individual and team skills/drills, and campers will improve as athletes and as people.
Camp attire is shorts, T-shirts, athletic socks, cleats and running shoes. Campers should bring lunch and plenty of water each day.

Mom and Me Stroller Fitness
Mom and Me Stroller Fitness ia a program that incorporates mom, the child, the stroller, resistance tubing, yoga mats and the environment in each workout. Children will be stimulated through counting, singing and watching their parents exercise. Participants will improve their cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility, while providing children with a special bonding experience. Stroller exercise is a great way for moms and "moms to be" to get into or stay in shape. The class will be run by Jennifer Miller, who is AFFA Group Exercise certified, and CPR, First Aid, and AED certified for adult, infant, and child. Classes will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 12 to June 18 on the paved walking trail around Rassie Wicker Park.
Cost is $35 for Pinehurst residents, $70 non-residents.
Adult Tennis Lessons
These lessons are co-sponsored with the Pinehurst Tennis Club. Beginner and Advanced Beginner lessons will teach participants the fundamentals of tennis including proper grips, ground strokes, serves and volleys. These classes will be at the Pinehurst Tennis Club. Please pre-register with the Recreation Department. Beginner classes will be from 5:45 to 6:45 Monday nights from June 1 to 22. Advanced beginner classes will be held from 6:45 to 7:45.
Cost is $22 for residents and $44 for non-residents.
Adult Golf Lessons
Chuck Bradbury will teach golf lessons for adults in June. Participants should bring their own clubs or check out a set from the Pinehurst Recreation Department. Lessons will be held at the Pinehurst Harness Track on the half-mile track infield next to the Fair Barn. Registration required. Beginner classes will be held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays from June 2 to 23. Advanced beginner classes will be held at 6:15 p.m. Registration is $25 for residents, $50 non-residents.
Youth Tennis Lessons
Pinehurst Tennis Club and Sandhills Tennis Assocation is co-sponsoring the class which will be taught by Dillon Rice. Rice will teach the basics of the game including proper grip, forehand and backhand strokes, serves and volleys. Participants should bring their own rackets and wear tennis shoes. Classes meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays from June 4-25 at Pinehurst Tennis Club. Cost is $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents.
Swimming Lessons
Swim lessons for those wantingto improve their skills will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 9 to 25. Catrina Nordgren will teach this class which focuses on water adjustment, front and back floats and supported kicking. Class will be held at Bretton Woods Pool. Cost is $20 for residents and $40 non-residents.
Youth Lacrosse Camps
This camp will be an introduction to the sport of lacrosse. Sam Narayan will instruct participants on the basic skills of the game. The camps will be held at Field No. 1 at Cannon Park. Participants will need a helmet, protective mask, goves, cup, mouthpiece, chest protector and lacrosse stick. Camp runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 15-19. Cost is $15 per participant. Checks can be made payable to Narayan.
Youth Baseball Camp
Jeff Hewitt, head baseball coach at Pinecrest High School will lead an instructional camp for youth ages 5 to 12. The camp focuses on basic skills and techniques of baseball and will be held at the Pinecrest high school baseball field. Each camper gets a t-shirt. Registration forms available at Village Hall. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 22-25 at Pinecrest High School. Cost is $45 per participant. Checks can be made payable to Hewitt.
Patriot Gridiron Golf Tourney
The Patriot Gridiron Challenge Golf Tournament will be June 8 at Pinehurst No. 8. Tournament is a two best ball team format with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $125 per player. Young Life Golf Tourney
Young Life in the Sandhills will host its 16th annual golf tournament May 12 at National Golf Club. Corporate sponsorships are available for four golf entries at $800 per team. Individual sponsors are available for $200.

Running Camp
Reebok's Mountain High Running Camp will be held in Mars Hill July 13 -18.
Middle and high school cross country camp features great trails, free Reebok shoes and a staff of elite U.S. and Kenyan runners and coaches.

The Seven Lakes Lions annual golf tournament will be Sunday, June 7 at Seven Lakes Country Club. The tournament is a captain's choice with four-person flighted teams (men, women and couples).
