The Moore Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at the Owens Auditorium on the campus of Sandhills Community College located at 3395 Airport Road in Pinehurst.

The featured soloist is Mallory Hayes, winner of the 2008 Moore Philharmonic Orchestra Solo Competition. No tickets are required, but tax-deductible donations are always welcome, says a spokesman.

The program will include: "Canon in D Major," by Johann Pachelbel (arr. P. Gordon); "Bolero," by Maurice Ravel (arr. R. Branga); "Symphony No. 9 in D minor (4th movement)," by Ludwig van Beethoven (arr. M. Hopkins); "Overture to the Marriage of Figaro," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (arr. M. Isaac); "Colonel Bogey March," by Kenneth Alford; "Selections from 'Porgy and Bess,'" by George Gershwin (arr. R. Bennett); "Selections from 'The Sound of Music'" by Rodgers and Hammerstein (arr. F. Muller); "Selections from 'The Wizard of Oz,'" by Harburg and Arlen (arr. C. Sayre); "Selections from 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'" (arr. V. Lopez).

Since 2005, the orchestra has served the Sandhills community, supporting music appreciation and education. It provides an outlet for approximately 50 volunteer musicians to perform varied programs of orchestral literature. Members include adults and talented college, high and middle school students. It is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and relies entirely on individual and business contributions to cover general and operating expenses and to support the Spring Development Scholar-ship Fund.

The Orchestra is a member of the Moore County Arts Council and the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.
