Sandhills Community College and the Department of Fine Arts invite the community to the spring concert to be held Monday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Auditorium on the college campus. The free concert will include performances by the Guitar Ensemble, graduating music students and the Sandhills Community College Choir.
The Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Danny Infantino, will feature students Thomas Banks, George Blanchard, Brett Haynes and Seren Lyerly.
They will play "Cuban Landscape with Rain" by Leo Brouwer and "Pavane" by Maurice Ravel.
A special part of the program will be performances by graduating students, Jacob Black and Thomas Banks. Black, a vocal music major at Sandhills, will be graduating in May and transferring to Appalachian State University. Banks, a senior at Pinecrest, has been dual-enrolled at Sandhills, where he studies guitar and music theory with Infantino and plays in the Guitar Ensemble.
The College Choir, under the direction of Frances Wilson and accompanied by Jennifer Thomas, will have the privilege of premiering two vocal compositions. Dog owners will enjoy the story told in "Tim's Rompe," a delightful song composed by Sandhills' librarian and musician, Alice Wilkins. Wilkins and the Sandhills Consort will join the choir in the performance of this piece.
The choir will also perform "As I Remember Now," by music educator and composer Gervais Warren. This reflective, nostalgic song has been dedicated to the SCC Choir by the composer.
"Please join the students and faculty for an evening of music at Sandhills Community College," says a spokesman.
