Local Bird Feed Safe

Sandhills Feed Store on Bennett Street has received communications from its suppliers of bird seed and such. They offer assurances that any C&S Wildlife Products containing peanut butter are safe.

In fact, none of the peanuts used by either C&S or D&D Commodities come from Georgia, where the contaminants were found, and are not affected by the recall.

C&S states: "All associated finished goods from each individual lot of peanuts is tested for salmonella A and B ... and subject to recall."

Salmonella can be spread by wild birds and can be found in their feces on the ground. Keep plenty of mulch and straw under the feeder to prevent other birds from stepping in contaminated waste. As I understand, it's the waste, not the feces.

Let's get the facts before we spread alarms concerning our locally owned well-respected businesses.
