The Collectors Gallery, in downtown Raleigh, will host an exhibit of the works of Daniel Johnston through March 31.
Johnston is an internationally recognized North Carolina potter from Seagrove.
His work can be found in private, public and museum collections. He apprenticed with world-renowned N.C. potter, Mark Hewitt, for four years and with Sawein Ailkahom in Northeast Thailand.
He also studied in North Devon, England, with potter Clive Bowen. Johnston uses local clay from Seagrove and creates glazes using a combination of wood ash, local red earthenware clay, and a local stoneware clay.
"Johnston transforms the clay into useful and beautiful objects," says a spokesman. "He has been recognized for his immense talent and beautifully crafted pots and vessels."
The Collectors Gallery is located in downtown Raleigh at 323 Blake Street in the historic City Market within the Moore Square Art District. Regular hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and by appointment.
