Pinecrest Golfers Open Season With Two Strong Performances

The Pinecrest boys fell three strokes short of Jack Britt in Thursday's first Mid-Southeastern Conference golf match of the season held at Richmond Pines.

The team scores were Jack Britt, 314, Pinecrest, 317, Richmond Senior, 320, Scotland County, 359 and Hoke County, 411.

The Patriots were led by Pete Lineberger with a round of 76. Scotland's Matt Ritchie earned medalist honors after posting a 75.

The other Patriot scores included a 79 by Austin Dunlap, and rounds of 81 by Sam Packard, Matt Forbis and Bryan Stewart. Brandon Jobe, Jake Barge and Justin Reynolds each posted a 77 to pave the way for Jack Britt.

On Friday, the defending 4A state champions finished fourth out of 15 teams in the big school division of the Keith Hills Invitational at Buies Creek.

Austin Dunlap led the Patriots with a round of 76 on the 6,625 yard Creek Course. Pete Lineberger and Sam Packard each posted a 77 and Bryan Stewart finished with an 81. Michael Cromie of Green Hope was the medalist with a score of 72.

Green Hope also won the team title with a total score of 306. The remainder of the top five were Wakefield, 310, Leesville Road, 310, Pinecrest, 311 and Apex 313.
