TJ Maxx Store Opens Sunday

"You gotta go," reads one of TJ Maxx's slogans.
On Sunday, Sandhills shoppers can. TJX Cos., of Framingham, Mass., will open the 31st TJ Maxx in North Carolina, a 25,000-square-foot free-standing store at 125 Aberdeen Pines Way (facing U.S. 15-501) in Aberdeen, just east of Walmart.
Opening-day hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The normal hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
"People have been stopping and asking when it will open since Christmas," said a workman putting finishing touches on the faade.
The store has hired 75 full- and part-time employees.
TJX Cos., the nation's largest off-price apparel retailer (with outlets in Europe and Canada), operates 10 other stores in the Raleigh trading area. The company also owns Marshalls and Home Goods. Their nationwide community service commitments include support of Joslin Diabetes Center and Autism Speaks.
The first TJMaxx opened in 1977, an out growth of the Zayres discount department store chain.
TJ's, as shoppers call it, specializes in high-fashion designer clothing and shoes for women, clothing for men and children, furniture, accessories, luggage, jewelry, housewares and gourmet groceries at 30-60 percent below tagged retail price.
Experienced shoppers also know you "gotta go" often. The Aberdeen store will receive about 10,000 new items weekly, but many are one-of-a-kind and are snapped up fast.
