A man ran off a masked intruder that was trying to break into a neighbor's house in the East Indiana Avenue area this morning, setting off a manhunt that involved several local law enforcement agencies.

Around 8 a.m., a woman in her home saw the masked suspect, dressed all in camouflage, and fled her home to get help, according to Capt. Jeff Medlin with the Moore County Sheriff's Department.

Her neighbor ran out and chased the suspect into a nearby wooded area. Sheriff's deputies, Aberdeen and Southern Pines police all responded to the call within a matter of minutes, Medlin said.

"I had just come on duty when I heard the call," Medlin said, "so I grabbed some of our guys and headed on out."

K-9 units from both the sheriff's department and Southern Pines police department were called to the scene, but were unable to track the suspect through the densely wooded area, Medlin said.

"It was a great response," Medlin said. "That's something about the agencies in this area, they are all willing to help out."

Now the sheriff's office is looking for someone to help out with some information. Medlin said there has been several break-ins in the East Indiana Avenue area near the Highland Trails subdivison recently. A $500 reward is being offered for information concerning the break-ins.
