The Heart of Carolina Jazz Society presents jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan, with the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, directed by Gregg Gelb, at 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Temple Theatre, in Sanford.
"He has one of the most original and advanced techniques on jazz guitar in the world, and he is a thrilling performer," says a spokesman.
His recent recording, "Steppin' Out,' earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra will open the show.
Jordan will teach a jazz guitar master class at 10 a.m. Saturday at the theater.
All interested participants have to register at the Heart of Carolina Jazz Society's Web site, www.carolinajazz.com and fill out a pre-registration form. The master class is free.
The HOC director will be selecting four students to play for Jordan in the master class. After gathering all the forms, the four performing students will be selected based on the students' talent and need. Jordan will give them instruction and demonstrate jazz and guitar techniques to help the students as the rest of the participants observe.
Concert tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/children (general admission).
For advance tickets, call the Temple Theatre Box Office at (919) 774-4155 from 2 to 6 p.m.
