Two Held in Marijuana Haul

A vehicle stop on Murdocks-ville Road near Pinehurst Tuesday resulted in the seizure of 20.5 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of two individuals.

Rosa Delia Arroyo of Asheboro and Baruc Ramos Ortiz of Randleman face several drug charges after officers from the narcotic unit and select enforcement unit of the Moore County Sheriff's Office stopped the pair's vehicle to conduct a search.

During the search, in addition to the marijuana, officers seized $326 and three counterfeit $20 bills.

After the car search and the arrests, the investigation continued into Randolph County, where Moore County officers searched three residences with the assistance of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and the Asheboro Police Department. In those searches, officers seized about $8,000, three handguns and one motor vehicle.

The estimated street value of the marijuana was $91,840.

Arroyo, 30, of 607 Dellwood Ave., Asheboro, was charged with two counts of felony trafficking in marijuana, felony conspiracy to traffic in marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and felony possession of marijuana. She was placed in the Moore County Detention Center. Her bail was set at $1 million.

Ortiz, 27, of 1169 Deer Run Drive, Randleman, was charged with two counts of felony trafficking in marijuana, felony conspiracy to traffic in marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle to keep controlled substance.

He was jailed and bail was set at $2 million.
