Has The Pilot Forgotten?

The Pilot conveniently suffered a memory loss when writing the June 7 editorial. Readers are asked to believe Republicans are people who automatically object, without real cause, an opposing president's nominee for the Supreme Court. It is said we object only because "this president" did the nominating. Amazing.

Remember what we went through elevating John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the bench? Previously, there were the appalling hearings designed to destroy the name and reputation of Clarence Thomas. Qualified choices all, but the liberal Democrats/progressives (or whatever they are calling themselves this year) did not want conservatives on the bench. Then Sen. Barack Obama said Alito was highly qualified but voted against him because he was a conservative.

Last but not least -- Robert Bork. So excoriated by the liberal Democrats was this good and honest man that being "Borked" now appears in the dictionary. His sin? He is a conservative.

Sonia Sotomayor has expressed, on too many occasions, a belief that is racist and sexist. She has said, with a coy entre nous wink, that law is written by the Court of Appeals. It isn't. These are valid reasons to question her worthiness as a jurist, on any court.
