The Moore County Summer Swim League opened its season with a splash. The first dual meet of the year was held June 16. Competitors from five area swim clubs -- the Sandsharks, Pinehurst Parks and Recreation, The Elks Club, the Seven Lakes Sting Rays and the National Country Club -- competed in free stroke and back stroke events at The O'Neal School pool. Swimmers compete in age groups for boys and girls. Age categories are 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

The clubs will compete in butterfly and breaststroke events June 23 at O'Neal. That meet begins at 5 p.m. with warmups.

The MCSL Championships will be held July 27 at OT Sloan Pool and Gymnasium in Sanford. Developmental meets will be held July 7 and July 14 at O'Neal.

In the team standings, the Sandsharks ranked first with 1020 points, followed by Seven Lakes (559), Pinehurst (360), Elks Club (307) and CCNC (300).

In the standings for the girls' events, the Sandsharks finished with 565 points, followed by Seven Lakes (395), Pinehurst (168), Elks Club (162) and CCNC (109).

In boys' events, The Sandsharks were first with 455 points. Pinehurst was second with 192, followed by CCNC with 191, Seven Lakes with 164 and the Elks with 145.

Individual female and male winners included: 25-yard freestyle -- Age 6 and under: Precious Cullen (29.19) of the Sandsharks and Jake Moubry (31.63) of CCNC; Age 7-8: Hannah Burns (17.78) of the Sandsharks and Christian Seaquist (19.22) of Pinehurst; Age 8-9: Alizabeth Bowlus (13.97) and Carlos Field (16.31), both of the Sandsharks; 50 Free -- Age 11-12: Lauren Wohlrab (29.06) and Eugene Zhang (27.50), both of Sandsharks; 13-14: Allison DiTomasso (27.97) and Mark Carey (26.66) both of Sandsharks; 25 Backstroke -- Age 6 and under: Precious Cullen (29.81) of Sandsharks and Jackson Bode (38.84) of CCNC; Age 7-8: Emma Gentry Landry (22.00) of CCNC and Lucas Woody (24.09) of Pinehurst; Age 9-10: Alizabeth Bowlus (17.75) and Carlos Field (19.91) both of the Sandsharks; 50 Backstroke -- Age 11-12: Hunter Mills (39.88) and Jacob Coxe (51.12) of Pinecrest; Age 13-14: Julia Lattarulo (35.22) of the Elks and David Miller (49.78) of the Stingrays.
