Brent Sanders, a member of the local Ohio State University's Sandhills Alumni Club, was recently declared the club's Member of the Year.

A committee of judges selected Sanders based on a written statement submitted by a fellow club member that supported his nomination for this prestigious award.

This award is a part of the club's annual program for honoring members who exemplify a high level of service to the club and community.

This service includes supporting scholarship, participating in community projects and demonstrating a positive role model for other club members to follow.

Sanders is a Life Member of the Ohio State University's Alumni Association and was instrumental in founding and promoting the Sandhills Alumni Club.

He has also helped support the club by donating to the club's Wounded Warrior project, participated in Fayetteville's Walk for Literacy, aided the club's scholarship program, attended the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, along with many other dedicated and supportive acts.

The Sandhills Alumni Club was organized two years ago, and the current membership is 143. The club meets at The Bell Tree in Southern Pines and Beef O'Brady's in Fayetteville for games.
