Registration for Machine Pitch Baseball
The Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department is extending registration for their Summer Machine Pitch Baseball League through June 25. The league is available for children ages 6-8 who are looking to participate in baseball during the summer. Practices and games will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Colonial Heights Park. Fees are $12 for residents and $25 for non-residents. To register, come by the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department, 301 Lake Park Crossing. Woof Woof Open Imminent
Golfers need to act now to enter the Woof Woof Open on the last weekend in June. Play at the Longleaf Country Club in Southern Pines will be June 27 and at The Pit in Aberdeen on June 28. The cutoff for entries is Wednesday, June 24. The tournament will raise money for a non-profit leash-free, locked and fenced dog park at NC 22 and Waynor Road near the airport. Golf tournament entry fees are $125 for both days, and $75 for a single day. Men, women, and mixed golfers play Best Two Balls of Four, with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts both days. Golfers entering both days will receive eight complimentary green fees, four at each club; and those entering a single day will get four - two each from both clubs. PHS Volleyball Camp
Registrations are under way for two volleyball camps directed by Pinecrest High School coach Barbara Foxx.
The Pinecrest Youth Volleyball Camp for ages five through 12 will be held at the school gym on June 28 through July 2. There will be morning sessions from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost for the morning sessions is $30 per person. The cost to attend both sessions is $60.
The camp staff will focus on individual skills in the morning. The afternoon session will emphasize combination drills, transition drills and league play. Camp participants will receive personal attention to help them develop and improve fundamentals as well as tips to become more effective team contributors.
A second camp for middle school and high school students will be held on July 13 through 16. There will also be morning (9-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (2-5 p.m.) sessions. The cost is $45 for the morning and $100 for all day.
All camp participants will need to bring gym shoes, knee pads, white socks, a T-shirt, towel and water bottle.
Foxx has helped lead teams to 14 conference championships, two undefeated seasons, two state championships and over 500 wins in 30 years as the coach at Pinecrest. Patriot players have gone on to play college volleyball at Arizona, Fayetteville State, NC A & T, N.C. Central, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Pembroke, Lenoir-Rhyne, Shaw and Wingate.

Girls' Volleyball Camp
Summer volleyball camps for girls in grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 will be held at the end of June and into July at FirstHealth Center for Health and Fitness.
Camp for girls in grades 3-5 will be June 29 to July 1. Camp from girls in grades 6 to 8 will be July 13-18 or Aug. 10-13. Camp for high school students will be July 20-23.
All camps are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and space is limited. Cost is $60 for FirstHealth members and $75 for non-members.
The camp will focus on serving, setting, passing and hitting. The high school clinic is for those who play on club or high school teams and will focus on the basic four skills along with higher level techniques, game situation drills and team cohesiveness.
Camp instructor is Tabitha Crider, a former Division I volleyball player at Penn State University with eight years coaching experience.

Girls' Basketball Camps
Free basketball training camps for girls in grades 4-9 will be held Monday nights from June 22 to August 17 at New Century Middle School gym.
Girls in grades 4,5 and 6 will have camp from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by girls in grades 7,8 and 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Participants will need to bring proof of a physical within the last year and a parent will need to be present to sign a waiver. Bring a towel and water bottle.

Hoop It Up Summer Basketball League
Southern Pines Recrecation and Parks Department will hold a summer basketball league for children ages 10-16.
League games will be played at the S.P. Rec Center gym and will run June through August. Registration is is still open and coaches and volunteers are needed. Call 692-2463.

SP Youth Golf League
Kids age 8-17 are invited to participate in the youth golf instructional league in July and August. League features instruction from local golf pros and an opportunity to play area courses. Registration deadline is June 19. Registration fee is $10/$25. League limited to 40 participants. Call 692-2463 for information.
SP Junior Tennis League
This is a fun traveling junior team for boys and girls ages 10 though rising high school seniors. (Younger, skilled players accepted.)
The team travels to and hosts teams from the surrounding areas. Minimum skill of advanced beginner is necessary. Practices and matches are during the week.

Youth Baseball Camp
Jeff Hewitt, head baseball coach at Pinecrest High School will lead an instructional camp for youth ages 5 to 12. The camp focuses on basic skills and techniques of baseball and will be held at the Pinecrest high school baseball field. Each camper gets a T-shirt. Registration forms available at Village Hall. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 22-25 at Pinecrest High School. Cost is $45 per participant. Checks can be made payable to Hewitt.
American Legion Fundraiser
The American Legion Post 72 in Aberdeen, located on East Main, will hold its annual BBQ plate sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 2. Cost is a $7 donation. The American Legion No. 76 car along with its driver and crew will be there. Also available now and on that day are raffle tickets for "dinner for two for a week." Tckets are $5 with the drawing to be held at 6 p.m. July 2. Supporting restaurants are Beefeater's, El Vaquero, Lob Steer Inn, Mtg. Fuji, Outback, Ragazzi's and Shuckers Oyster Bar and Grill.
Reebok's Mountain High Running Camp will be held in Mars Hill July 13 -18.
Middle and high school cross country camp features great trails, free Reebok shoes and a staff of elite U.S. and Kenyan runners and coaches.
